An award-winning, internationally acclaimed company, theater simple was founded in 1990 by two actors who aim to strip the theatrical experience down to its elemental parts: the imagination of the actor and audience, the playwright's words and the director's vision.

theater simple has built a solid international reputation for producing provocative, literate, subversive, entertaining and original theatrical experiences.

No, we are not easily categorized or ‘niched’

We do stuff accessible to kids, but dreamy(or punny) for grown-ups

Stuff for grownups that kids appreciate

Stuff for people who swear and smoke and have adult relationships

And stuff for the thinkers and poets

And stuff for ‘all ages’, whatever that might evoke for you.

Sometimes it happens at the same time

Sometimes it might just for the amusement of a hardy few.

Take a look around. Maybe something might be to your taste. And then again, maybe not.
Visit anyway. What the hell – it’s free.

Wonderland and Make A Wish

On September 10th & 11th, theater simple culminated months of work with the Northwest Chapter of the Make A Wish Foundation, Nordstrom, The Space Needle and The Bloedel Reserve, when company co-founder, Llysa Holland, met Robin at her South Seattle door, thus beginning a 28 hour adventure with our characters from Wonderland: Alice Adventures.

This month, Robin's amazing wish is being highlighted by the National Make A Wish Newsletter. Read more about this incredible child, her amazing and imaginative wish request, and all the people who came together to make a wish come true!

theater simple's Park Bench: University of Nevada, Reno, Pt 1

The week of September 17th, 2011, we set up shop at the University of Nevada in Reno and asked students about their lives, their plans, their school, and in these challenging times……their hopes for the future. Thanks to everyone who stopped to talk.

During three very hot September days in Reno we logged over 70 interviews, and from these chats we have done our best to sketch the community of a University: it’s pride, hopes and concerns. We hope this three part podcast series sparks conversation and interest in what makes a campus tick. And now we present theater simple's Park Bench: University of Nevada, Reno, Pt 1

Link to the podcast at our cool podcast host, or subscribe in i-tunes.

WONDERLAND: Alice Adventures

a huge success

(part of 4Culture's Site-Specific Performance Network)

This past July & August over 1500 people joined theater simple at four King County parks to experience Wonderland: Alice Adventures. An all-ages adventure, theater and visual arts weave whimsically together within a parkland, playing with the creative perspectives of imaginations. A free theatrical park escapade, WONDERLAND was inspired by and adapted from Charles Dodgson’s (Lewis Carroll) Alice stories, as well as Dodgson's wordplay, math games and puzzles.

Thank you 4Culture, Kent Arts Commission, Auburn Parks Arts & Recreation, Bellevue Arts Commission & the US Army Corp of Engineers (at the Ballard Locks).
